The Seowon Foundation was the key force behind the efforts to have Korea’s seowon registered as a UNESCO World Heritage. In July 2019, it succeeded in having “Seowon, Korean Neo-Confucian Academies” registered as Korea’s 14th UNESCO World Heritage.
Ever since, the Seowon Foundation has carried out its responsibilities as a comprehensive managerial organization for the preservation and utilization of the seowon.

- Events that highlighted the uniqueness and tradition of each of the nine seowon, including a concert held on July 3 in celebration of the first anniversary of the addition of seowon to the World Heritage List, international seminar held on October 29 on the value and conservation of seowon, art exhibitions (including “Korean Seowon Goes Global” and Jeonju National Museum Special Exhibition titled “Seowon, Honoring Virtue and Educating Scholars”), online contests, and many more.
